Outdoor Painting Session : 4th November 2012 at Molonglo Reach, canberra

"What could be pleasanter than sitting beside a river on a beautiful Spring day, under trees clad in their new, green foliage? That’s what eleven of us did last Sunday. Armed with watercolour gear, we set up a temporary workshop on the banks of the Molonglo River, across the road from Duntroon.

Our leader, Chan Dissanayake, began the session with a painting demonstration, accompanied with pearls of wisdom about the dos and don’ts of sketching and painting with watercolours. Chan’s flair for capturing the scene with apparently effortless ease inspired us all. Such was the level of concentration when it was our turn, we painted mostly in silence as we tried to capture the vistas before us.

After gentle advice to each of us on ways in which we could improve our work, Chan gave a second demonstration and then asked us to have a go. Before we knew it, the morning was gone and it was time to pack up our gear and go home. A perfect way to spend a Sunday morning!"
